How to go about getting an India-Bangladeshi passport

All passport processes have their own complications and hiccups. However, if you, as an individual of Bangladeshi nationality, have your documentation in order, you might find the passport creation process that much easier and surprisingly faster.

In case you are working on getting a Bangladeshi passport, you can download the application form here. Make sure you have a registered certificate stating that you are a permanent resident of Tripura or have a citizen registration certificate. More importantly, all applicants have to be older than 15 years. The entire process costs Rs. 500 which has to be done through a bank challan. This cannot be done through any bank and has to be done with a registered bank following their working hours.

As with all public documentation, recent photographs have to be provided. These have to be attested by a gazetted official and match the picture requirements for this purpose, 3.5 cms by 4.5 cms. If you are working for the state, or central government, or a public sector undertaking you need an NOC (No Objection Certificate) from your place of work, stating that they are alright with you continuing the process. The NOC has to be issued within less than two years of going through the entire application process.

To include children’s names in the passport, their birth certificates will have to be provided as well. All details have to be verified at the Bangladeshi passport counter, which means you have to visit the counter after the police verification.

Most of these details are asked for and mentioned on the form when you are filling it out. After the passport is ready, they are usually given out during the second half, 2:30 – 5:30 pm. For more information, you can always get it here.
